Improvised Silent Films

Anthony’s improvised accompaniments to classic silent movies are increasingly in demand around the world. A completely unique experience for the audience, these soundtracks have never been heard before and never will be again! A brilliant way to engage those who may not be intrigued by a traditional organ recital.

Past films have included:

  • The Phantom of the Opera (1925/9)
  • King of Kings
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Nosferatu
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

“….In celebration of Halloween, we screened a silent movie, and Anthony provided organ accompaniment. I felt that his playing was excellent: sensitive to the organ and space alike, and immaculately timed to the film itself…”

(Jonathan B. Hall, Music Director, Montclair, New Jersey)

This is a collection of excerpts from a live, improvised organ soundtrack to the legendary 1925/29 silent movie “The Phantom of the Opera” — Anthony Hammond, Cirencester Parish Church, 24 March 2012
